The problem

When the fire front arrives, there aren't enough people to go around.

Large wildfire incidents create a staffing bottleneck in which the number of threatened properties quickly exceeds the personnel available to safely monitor and operate suppression equipment. The window to defend each structure closes fast — fire conditions deteriorate and evacuation orders shut down onsite operations.

Professional fire protection crews face two compounding challenges: the physical danger of holding position near the fire front to run suppression equipment, and the impossibility of staffing every threatened property at once when entire areas are evacuated.

Existing pool-fed suppression systems make this worse — they require an operator, typically the homeowner, to run the pump and aim a water stream at the structure and approaching fire. That forces people to violate evacuation orders and put their lives at risk to protect their own property.
